Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Canada Aerospace Inc. (MHICA)

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Canada Aerospace Inc. (MHICA) opened its first North American aerospace company in 25 years, and first ever in Canada, in Mississauga. MHICA opened its new 90,000 sq. ft. facility at 2025 Meadowvale Blvd this September. The company employs 160 people and plans to increase the number of employees in the near future. MHICA takes charge of the development, manufacturing and assembly of major airframe components for Bombardier Aerospace, specifically for the Global Express, the Challenger, the CRJ and the Dash8-400 aircraft. more…

State Street Global Advisors Expands Presence in Canada

State Street Global Advisors (SSgA), the investment management arm of State Street Corporation (NYSE: STT), and largest institutional fund manager in the world(1), today announced its expanded presence in Toronto with new office space at one of Toronto's signature office buildings, TD Canada Trust Tower located at 161 Bay Street. Lowe's Announces Opening Dates for First Canadian Stores

The home improvement retailer to open Brampton location just in time for Christmas.  Lowe's Companies, Inc. announced today that its subsidiary, Lowe's Companies Canada, ULC (Lowe's), plans to open its first three stores in Canada the week of Dec. 10, 2007. The first of six stores expected to open during fiscal 2007 will be in Brampton, Hamilton and Brantford. A Toronto store is slated to open in late January. Lowe's has 18 additional sites in the pipeline, including a second Brampton location scheduled to open in early 2008.  more…

Sheridan College Celebrates Over 40 Years

Sheridan College will celebrate over 40 years of achievements in October. The celebration will highlight contributions the college has made to communities it has served for four decades. Sheridan educates approximately 15,000 full-time students annually at its campuses in Oakville and Brampton. The Brampton, Davis campus is home to approximately 6,500 students. The Davis campus located near Steeles and McLaughlin Road features a brand new student centre called the Rec Room, along with an athletic facility, library, full-service cafeteria all situated in a peaceful park setting. This campus is also the location of the new Advanced Manufacturing teaching centre. A Gala, Big Picture event will take place October 25 with the distinguished guest speaker being none other than who the campus is named, William G. Davis. Brampton’s own Bill Davis, former premier of Ontario and the man credited for the start up of the community college system in this province will offer his own observations and views about Sheridan, past, present and future. more…

For the third time in a row, the Government of Canada has taken the number one most desirable employer ranking position amongst post-secondary students, a new research study conducted by Brainstorm Consulting, DECODE and Universum revealed. Dollar's Rise Impacts Plans of Canadian Manufacturers -- Poll

"Move forward" agenda is tempered by expectation of slow-down. Canadian manufacturers are taking positive steps to deal with the impact of the rising Canadian dollar, but they expect some negative impacts on their industry, according to a recent mini-poll done for Access Group and the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance (CATA). Access Group is a think tank that networks executives to create actionable strategic plans, and is aligned with CATAAlliance, Canada's largest high-tech association. The poll was taken to provide additional background for an upcoming executive event on October 10th in London, Ontario, on "Surviving, Competing and Prospering in the New Age of the High Canadian Dollar". The Internet-based poll was answered by 20 companies. more…

Food in Canada Magazine recently published the Top 100 Canadian Food & Beverage Processors list. Brampton employers listed among the top 20 include; Parmalat Canada, Nestle Canada Inc., Maple Leaf Foods and SunOpta Inc. SunOpta Inc, is a company driven by a commitment to the health and well-being of their customers, communities and the environment, SunOpta operates three high growth, ethical business segments.  The largest operating group, the SunOpta Food Group, is focused on the natural, organic and specialty foods markets. Four Brampton based Food & Beverage companies are listed in the top 10 key Food & Beverage manufacturers in the GTA. Included are Coca Cola Bottling, Maple Leaf Foods, Maple Lodge Farms and Quality Meat Packers Ltd. The Food & Beverage Sector employs over 7,000 in Brampton and is projected to grow by 2.2% in Brampton by the end of 2007. more…

York Region CEO Forum, The Economics of Going Green

This very successful forum organized by the York Region Economic Development Branch, was held on Tuesday September 25th. The event, attended by 140 participants including York Region company executives, Municipal Economic Development staff, Chamber of Commerce/Board of Trade representatives, Mayors and Regional Members of Council, focused on the business benefits of investing in the financial and human capital needed to enhance competitiveness, sustainability and profitability to meet today's global challenges.  Regional Chair and CEO, Bill Fisch, gave the opening remarks on the York Region Sustainability Strategy and executives from IBM Canada, Philips, J. D.
