Phoenix Exploratory
Lou Milrad, Chairman and CEO and John Jung, President and COO travelled to Phoenix in December following the visit by the Governor of Arizona’s visit to the GTA in October. The visit was actively supported by the Canadian Consulate in Phoenix and Tucson with several meetings arranged with Phoenix and Tucson companies, as well through the support of the Canada-Arizona Chamber of Commerce and the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC). They gave two presentations organized by GPEC as well as met with several companies from Phoenix and Tucson. Two areas of interest have been identified for future collaboration: the MRO sector (Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul) and investment. The GTMA plans to host a delegation from Phoenix in June and potentially return with a delegation to attend the Invest Southwest in Phoenix in December, which was sponsored this year, in part, by the TSX. GTMA Collaborating with TRRA on the “Connecting with Consulates” Event
The GTMA is working with the TRRA to organize the Connecting with Consulates event, which is designed to provide information about the investment attraction services offered by TRRA, GTMA, City of Toronto and MaRS. In addition to presentations from these organizations, Stephen Green, Partner Green & Siegel will provide an overview of immigration issues related to the movement of a corporation’s key foreign personnel into Canada. The event will provide an opportunity to explore the needs of consulates when working with their business partners and provide them with contacts to help facilitate their business development activities.

We will also work with local chambers of commerce, municipalities and the private sector in each country. GTMA’s Toronto – in – NYC Day
The NYC– Financial Services- focused investment attraction initiative will take place on March 4 in partnership with TFSA, MEDT, the Canadian Consulate in NYC and over a dozen private sector partners at the W Hotel in NYC’s midtown. The purpose of this visit is to focus on the opportunities to partner with the New York City Financial Services sector. The day includes a focused luncheon presentation with keynote speakers, namely, The Honourable Dwight Duncan, Province of Ontario Finance Minister and The Honourable Frank McKenna, Deputy Chairman, TD Bank, former Ambassador of the United States and Premier of New Brunswick, followed by testimonial speakers from Merrill Lynch, UBS, among others. In addition to the keynote speakers, key individuals from the Toronto area will participate including Janet Ecker, President of the Toronto Financial Services Alliance, Brampton Mayor Susan Fennell and Dan Sullivan, Consul General of Canada in NYC, and several senior executives and leaders from among the GTA’s public and private sector. MIPIM (Marché International des Professionnels de ' Immobilier) is the world’s largest property and development show (www.mipim.com) that attracts over 25,000 participants and senior decision makers from around the world. ICF Immersion Lab to Visit Toronto, May 22
GTMA, MaRS, Waterfront Toronto, the Province of Ontario and others from across the Toronto Region will host a delegation, which will include Seoul’s Gangnam Mayor Meang Jung-Ju and others from around the world, to a presentation on Toronto “Intelligent Waterfront “ initiative, a tour of MaRS and related presentations on what makes Toronto and the Toronto Region an “Intelligent Community”. The ICF tour will also include stops in Philadelphia, New York City, Cleveland and Waterloo, all former award winning intelligent communities. News Release - Agenda for Prosperity a Vision for All - January 16
Mayor David Miller and members of the Mayors Economic Competitiveness Advisory Committee today unveiled the Agenda for Prosperity, a report that presents an achievable vision for growing the city’s long-term prosperity. The report will be presented Thursday to the City’s Economic Development Committee.
The reports four pillars - improved business climate, internationalization, productivity and growth, and economic opportunity and inclusion - is a vision for all to aspire, said Mayor Miller.
This report brings all who can and want to contribute to Toronto’s long-term prosperity around a single, simple agreement on an achievable vision, said Miller. I am immensely pleased with the work of the committee and thank them for their dedication and hard work.
The committee is made up of a cross-section of people from business, labour, small business and academia. They began their work in 2006, culminating in the release of the report that will go to City Council at the end of the month.
